Tuesday evening was Taste the County’s annual Partnership Volunteer Recognition Evening, which celebrates the individuals that contribute to the organization’s ongoing success.

More than 50 people mixed and mingled, sipped local wines and nibbled on local cheese and goodies prepared by the Regent Café (thank you Judy!), while members of Taste the County’s Board of Directors helped hand out all sorts of wonderful door prizes. Donated by Taste the County partners, the prizes ranged from a cozy wool blanket to three hour kayaking tour and had everybody hoping they’d win. A grand prize comprising of two round trip tickets to anywhere within the Windsor-Quebec corridor, courtesy of VIA Rail, was won by Taste the County volunteer Susie Harrington. The event culminated in the presentation by Taste the County Board member Jeremy Gander of the Awards of Excellence. Recognizing outstanding contributions to the region’s agricultural, arts and cultural, and tourism sectors, the awards were handed out to: Petra Cooper, who received the award for Outstanding Contribution to Agriculture for her work as founder and CEO of Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company, Prince Edward County’s newest cheese factory; Peggy deWitt, who received the award for Outstanding Contribution to Arts and Culture for her work as owner of Paper Images Gallery and her reputation as the “County Photographer;” and Honey King who received the award for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism, recognizing her efforts to foster awareness of Prince Edward County as a compelling destination.
