Watershed Magazine has been touring and tasting in Prince Edward County for ten years. Who could resist the winding sideroads banked by hot pink hollyhocks, the tidy rows of grapevine dripping with their bounty, the roadside markets brimming with fruits and vegetables, hand-picked from the mineral rich soils? Those same soils are steeped in history, legend and determination—from the lore of Loyalist pioneers and the adventures of their rum-running offspring to the daring entrepreneurs and artists who use the beauty of the County as a backdrop for inspiration.
In 2004, Watershed Magazine partnered with Taste the County to produce the first Taste Trail book—a travel guide that garnered the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Marketing and Product Development.
The project put us in the kitchens of chefs who passionately believed that the best and freshest products came from their local butchers and farmers. We photographed each and every County vintner and madly jotted notes that would translate into text that intended to lure visitors to this magical locale. Today, a mere mention of Prince Edward County brings knowing nods from foodies and oenophiles across the province and the country.
Watershed Magazine is as proud today to be associated with Prince Edward County as we were ten years ago, when we were first dazzled by the accomplishments of a small community determined to set itself apart.
