Oeno Gallery 3rd Anniversary Celebration

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

On January 21st 2012 the Oeno Gallery will be celebrating its third anniversary at its location adjacent to the Winery and Inn at Huff Estates in Bloomfield. Best known for showing a wide variety of local, Canadian and International contemporary artists in its light filled main building, the Gallery has built a solid reputation in the arts scene in Ontario.

Over the past few years, the Gallery has presented exhibitions of work by senior Canadian abstract artists like Otto Rogers and Louis Jaque and various members of the Royal Canadian Academy such as Edward Falkenberg, Susan Collett and Paula Murray. Recent shows featuring new work by artists Carl Wiens, Alice Teichert, Chris Langstroth, Daniel Hughes, Kim Atlin and Sylvain Louis-Seize have attracted a number of collectors and enthusiasts. The Gallery also exhibits a number of up-and-coming painters, printmakers, and sculptors from across Canada and the United States.

The Oeno Gallery continues to collaborate with other cultural groups, organizing a 50 year retrospective on the career of Graham Metson in partnership with the John M. Parrott Art Gallery and s’posin, a jazz/dance/performance based on Alice Teichert’s paintings, developed with the help of the Quinte Ballet School, the Ontario Arts Council and the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival.

With the help of assistant curator Hri Neil, the Gallery has started dealing in secondary market works, acquiring and selling works by members of the Group of Seven, the Painters Eleven, local artists Manly Macdonald and Tom Mathews and work by other significant Canadian artists.

This past summer marked the launch of Oeno’s Sculpture Garden at Huff Estates, a partnership between the Gallery and Huff Estates. The 3.5 acre sculpture garden, inaugurated on June 25, 2011, features an annual exhibition of outdoor works by over 20 artists. This year, the garden featured work by Shayne Dark, Anne O’Callaghan, Rick Lapointe, Camie Geary Martin, Mark Clark and many others. The works are exhibited against a backdrop of 35,000 perennials, and meandering paths lead to the meditation garden, the rose garden and the pond. A call for new outdoor sculptures is now underway in preparation for the 2012 summer season.

The Gallery hosts many musical performances throughout the year and has been praised for its excellent acoustics. This year it was chosen for the final performance by SuperNova, Canada’s premier chamber music string quartet, during the Prince Edward County Music Festival.

The Gallery begins the 2012 season on January 21st with a dynamic group exhibition, featuring work by many of the gallery artists. Arabella Magazine’s new book on Art, Architecture and Design will be launched at the same time. At the reception, January 21st, 6-8pm, the first limited Sculpture Garden Series wine will be released by Huff Estates – a Sauvignon Blanc. Shayne Dark’s Tanglewood is featured on the label.  Many of the artists will be present, and we hope you can join us to help us celebrate this new season.

Andrew Csafordi Encaustic Studio Gallery

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Through each encaustic painting Andrew brings the view into an organic sky landscape unlike any other.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Andrew Csafordi, Andrew Csafordi Encaustic Studio Gallery
A graduate of the Ontario College of Art, Andrew majored in drawing & painting, communication and design.  He has continued to consistently paint, sculpt and exhibit his art throughout his 30-year career as a professional designer, illustrator and creative director of several creative studios, and for the past 12 years, has co-owned the successful creative design studio, Fire Engine Inc. with his partner, wife and fellow artist, Tara Wilkinson. Andrew has created paintings and sculptures for both corporate and personal clients. Andrew and Tara (Love Nest Studios) are proud members of the Prince Edward County Arts Trail, and welcome over 1,000 visitors to their lovely farm, studios and galleries every year.

ANDREW’S ART
Through each encaustic painting, Andrew brings the viewer into an organic sky landscape unlike any other. Rich layers of imagination, pure beeswax and damar resin medium, dry pigments/oils, as well as fibre, wood, metal and other materials, are used in combination to tell a story. Sometimes moody, sometimes whimsical, always thought-provoking, Csafordi’s paintings seem, at times, as if he has reached down and ripped up the earth to show his viewers what lies beneath the surface … both literally and metaphorically. Each painting offers a portal into one’s imagination, and to a mysterious, luminous and textural world beyond.

18TH ANNUAL PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY STUDIO TOUR

Friday, September 16th, 2011

September 16 – 18, 2011

Thirty-four artists and studios will open their doors for the 18th Annual Prince Edward County Studio Tour for 3 days, Friday Sept 16 until Sunday Sept 18, and the Executive Committee is pleased to make an important announcement:

“On behalf of the Studio Tour Executive and all the Tour members, we are very pleased that Wendy Mathews has agreed to accept the role of Chair for the 2012 Tour,” announced Joy Williams, Chair of the 2011 Prince Edward County Studio Tour. “Although not an artist herself, she has a deep understanding of the challenges in creating a successful Studio Tour, and her professional background and skills will be a great benefit to the organization.”

Joy has been involved with the tour for many years, and was Co-Chair for 2 years before assuming the full Chair role. “Every year, the highlight is always the Tour weekend – when all the time and effort of all the members pays off, and the public enjoys 3 days of exploring the world-of-art.”

Prince Edward County has an extremely vibrant art community that is a vital part of the County’s tourism industry bringing thousands of visitors to the County each year. The Studio Tour weekend is a marvelous time to meet the talented artists in their studios, and see first hand how they work. Tour artists are reporting that the new Studio Tour permanent signs, along with the annual brochure, have been enticing many visitors to their studios over the summer.

Ready to lead this popular cultural event in its 19th year, Wendy is well aware of the many challenges. “As with any non-profit organization that is run mainly by volunteers, we are always aware of the both the costs and the amount of work involved. Businesses in the County have regularly supported The Studio Tour, but each year there is the need to secure new funding and encourage volunteer involvement.”

In addition to enjoying life in the County, Wendy works as an education advisor to a UN recognized community development project in rural Cambodia. Schools have become much livelier places of learning since she and her Cambodian colleagues have shown teachers how to use the arts in their classroom programs. Wendy lives in Wellington with her husband, photographer Rick Matthews

The popular tradition of a gift basket prize draw, with items from many of the participating artists, will take place. Ballots are available during the weekend at all tour locations and The Waring House Inn.

This year’s sponsors include: The Waring House Inn, Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership, and the Prince Edward County Arts Council.

The Information Centre at The Waring House Inn is open Friday – Sunday, September 16-18 from 10am to 5pm.

Tour Dates: September 16-17-18
Time: 10am to 5pm daily
Admission: FREE.

In addition to a virtual tour at www.pecstudiotour.com, visitors can join our Facebook group and Twitter @ 2011StudioTour.
