On Saturday of Victoria Day weekend, Taste the County attended the Terroir wine festival at Picton’s Crystal Palace to promote the Taste Trail. Hundreds of people turned out to sample newly released vintages and local cuisine. And while the weather threatened to turn stormy, to everyone’s relief, it never did.
Congratulations to Prince Edward County Winegrowers Association (PECWA), which organized the event and special thanks to Mary J. Brett for helping out at our booth!

Taste Trail Study
Wednesday, December 10th, 2008
On Tuesday morning, Taste the County (including honoury staff member Colin Sills) attended the presentation of the results of a recent study of the Taste Trail. Conducted in summer 2008, the study sheds light on topics such as how the trail is perceived by both the people who travel it as well as the establishments who participate in it.
Over the course of two hours the study’s principal investigators Richard Wade and Hersch Jacobs from Ryerson University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management presented findings to a group of 15 which included our former colleague, Rebecca LeHeup-Bucknell and Dan Taylor, the County’s Economic Development Officer.
Weighing in at 97 pages, the study is too long to summarize here, but a number of results did stand out. These include that while Taste Trail consumers reported a high level of satisfaction with the trail, with over eighty percent scoring it an eight out of ten, the most common suggestions for improving it were to include more establishments, to improve advertising and to avoid a charge for tastings. What’s more, when it came to Taste Trail participants, a majority (75%) indicated that they receive frequent or very frequent requests for local food products, while all believed buying local was either important or very important.
