Prince Edward County Artisan “UNIQUE BOUTIQUE“ at The Inn at Huff Estates Winery

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

Joining in the upcoming Wassail! celebrations at wineries throughout Prince Edward County, local artists and artisans will present a “UNIQUE BOUTIQUE” in the Courtyard Room at The Inn at Huff Estates Winery (at County Road #1 and Highway 62) on Saturday and Sunday, November 26th & 27th and December 3rd & 4th from 11 am to 5 pm.

Offering handcrafted, one-of-a-kind gifts in porcelain, fibre, encaustic, wood, metal and fabric as well as a bountiful selection of local fine baked goods, savory treats and beautiful handmade products for bath and beauty, there will be “Gifts of Nature’s Bounty” for everyone on the Holiday list. Visitors can enjoy a cup of mulled cider while shopping.

Participating County Artists and Artisans are Andrew Csafordi of Andrew Csafordi Studio Gallery, Tara Wilkinson of Love Nest Studios, Viola Michalska of Michalska Fine Porcelain, Paul Ross of Paul Ross Woodturning Studio; Elizabeth Batt of Scottish Accents, Jennifer Hardene of Amarais Artisan, Heather Case of Case Clothed, Lori MacRow of A Stone’s Throw Studio, Suzanne LaFrance of Moonlight B&B and folk artist, John Miller.

Functional wood turned salad bowls and porcelain dinnerware, beautiful hand-carved bird sculptures and art nests of fibre and twigs, sculptural beeswax paintings, lovely handmade soap, charming screen printed dinner napkins and wine bags, gorgeous felted garments and accessories, and delicious preserves, pies and other sweet and savory fare guarantees this event will be a pre-holiday feast for all the senses!

An old Danish greeting meaning “to your health” first noted in 8th Century England, Wassail! is an Orchard Tradition involving toasts to one’s health, the harvest and the upcoming year … and general all round merriment.

Weekends from November 19 to December 4th, Huff Estates Winery will be offering a unique opportunity to taste and buy some old vintage wines from their library, including past gold medal winners and other wines which are no longer available on the shelves. They will also be pairing some of their sweeter wines with medieval style desserts prepared by Chef Michael Hoy. An official Wassail accommodation provider, the luxurious, 21-suite Inn at Huff Estates is located at 2274 County Road 1 at Highway 62 in the heart of Prince Edward County. For reservations, call 1-866-484-4667 or visit www.huffestates.com.

Waupoos Estates Winery End of Summer Celebration – The 1st Annual Grapevine Telegraph Music Festival

Friday, August 26th, 2011

waupoos-poster-copyThe County’s oldest winery has undergone some massive transitions this summer. Already home to one of the most coveted scenic spots in the County, Waupoos Winery has created even more reasons to visit – new ownership, a new Chef and restaurant expansion, a chocolate shop, and a waterfront patio are just a few of the changes that Waupoos Estates Winery can be proud of.

Despite delays in re-opening caused by the renovation, Waupoos opened its new restaurant doors to the public this June and the response has been overwhelming. Often seating 200 for dinner on weekends, the expansion was well worth the wait, and the new owners want to celebrate! To thank their generous supporters and patient customers this coming weekend Waupoos Estates Winery will host the first annual Grapevine Telegraph – a festival of music, family fun, food and wine.

The event is a multi-day affair starting with a fish fry this Friday, August 26th from 4-8pm. Live music will accompany the feast, and tickets are $12.00 for kids, $8.00 for children.  Bring the whole family on Saturday, August 27th for an all-day music festival – performances by Eden Hertzog, Chris Assad, Mel Larkin, Ariana Gillis, Brian Macmillan and Nine Mile, alongside kids activities, wagon rides, classic cars, prizes, and a 9pm firework show will complete this fun-filled event. If you’re not too tired by Sunday, join the Waupoos family for a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning on the patio from 9am -12pm, served with bacon, sausages and fresh fruit.

This event marks the first of many events Waupoos Winery sees in their future. For more information on performances, and ticket prices please visit their website or contact them directly at 613.476.8338. Redtail Vineyard Opening

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

redtailRecently my husband and I had the pleasure of attending the soft launch of Prince Edward County’s newest winery, Redtail Vineyard. Canada’s only “off-grid” winery, owners Pauline Joicey & Gilbert Provost are as passionate about the environment as they are about wine. Located at 422 Partridge Hollow Road, Consecon, the official opening takes place this weekend, Saturday May 9 & Sunday May 10, 2009.
